A Room Of One's Own

A Room Of One's Own (자기만의 방) is the first studio album by Lucia (루시아, aka Sim Gyu-seon (심규선)). It is a collaborative work with Epitone Project. It was released on September 7, 2011, with "Any Days, Any Words" ("어떤 날도, 어떤 말도") serving as the album's title track.

Album intro[1][]

Everyone has their own special place they go to that is theirs alone, like a secret room. This album by Lucia and the Epitone Project is full of songs about how people spend their time in these secret rooms, whether it is to be happy by themselves or to be alone when they are feeling sad.

The title song of the album as well as the album itself is taken from a fascination with the work of Virginia Woolf and her collected essays “A Room of One’s Own”. Trying to change the way we think, and the notion that you can overcome past hurts without having to specifically focus on them. This album is really an extension of Lucia’s first digital single and her interpretation of the themes in Virginia Woolf’s work.

Songs intro[1][]

The songs [부디] “Please”, [고양이왈츠] “Cat Waltz” were already released on the first digital single and were well received by Lucia’s fans, so for this debut album they were re-recorded and updated.

The song [안녕, 안녕] “Goodbye, Goodbye” is about how when we’re young we feel very fragile when we experience hardships.

The song [어떤 날도, 어떤 말도] “Any Day, Any Words” is the title song of the album and it is a response to people who may feel connected with “Goodbye, Goodbye”. It’s a song about these same people and their memories, but also about how they’re sticking their hands out to a future.

Also the song [웃음] “Laughter” is a song that came out after working with the Epitone Project on this Album. For every youth who is trapped in a room of one’s own, this song is a support of them.

[꽃처럼 한 철만 사랑해 줄 건가요] “Are you going to love me for just one season like a flower?” (also called "Sakura Moment", is a song resembling how a cherry blossom flourishes underneath the moonlight. Pair that with the very dramatic and musical like song of [버라이어티] “Variety” which Lucia recorded in one take and wrote when she was only 20 years old.

The song “Sue” was inspired by Lucia watching the series “Fingersmith” which is a story about a trio of pickpockets in Victorian England.
